Thane could not blame Shepard for his decision, though there was a part of him that wanted to. He understood the tactical advantage of retaking the larger facility first, and he knew that route would most likely save more lives. It was an order that in any other circumstance he'd have no problem following. But the distress call that had hailed them to The Cerberus attack was from a friend; Baily managed to escape the main forces, and mentioned he had a few others, including Kolyat in tow. They had escaped to a lesser facility far to the west of the main building. Then, a terrible radio silence crawled in, and their signal disappeared.
Thane knew what he would have to do, and it was a small comfort to know that Shepard understood. The shuttle careened through the black velvet sky, for one bright moment silhouetted against the planet's silver twin moons. The ground below was thick with all manners of bright and brilliant flora, their dazzling phosphorescence thinning the night. Cortez cruised the area just off of Cerberus' control, troubling to pick out a landing spot that was free of herculean tree trunks and nets of thick thorny vine.
The door slid open with a hiss as the shuttle hovered a few feet from the ground, seconds away from landing. The thick humid air rolled in to the shuttle, glittering it specks of pale pearly pollen. New bright colored insects sprung up before the shuttle's lights like ideas.
Thane felt the weight of his guns on his back, and pulled himself from the shuttle's shelter. The ground was soft and mossy under his feet.
"I am going west," the information was no surprise to the Commander, but Thane felt it fair to announce his intent rather than stalking away from the rest without a single word. He was accustomed to working alone, though he had grown fond of having companions to fight at his side.
