Name:
Thane Krios
Canon: Mass Effect
Timeline: Post suicide mission, before game 3
Appearance:

LIKE A BAWSS

QUICK NOTE: Oral contact with a drell will cause a human (or any any other species, depending on what we decide ooc) to hallucinate and become high. I am okay waving this though; we cal talk ooc!

Moving on;

Thane has a unique presentation:

Unique Appearance; Thane is a drell, so obviously he presents differently than a human. A few striking features include the crests around the cheeks and on the head, the green/orange coloration, and for Thane uniquely, his big dark eyes. He also blinks with two sets of eyelids; very reptilian. Thane's physical appearance goes beyond his race, of course.

His style choices say a lot about his character, too. Thane dresses in all neutral colors, and does not wear anything flashy or extravagant. However, what he wears his functional for his work; Thane is an assassin, and thus wears dark, trim fitting close that allow for both quiet stealth, and ease of movement in combat.

His manner is that of polite Professionalism; Thane presents himself as someone who can do the brutal jobs, and what's more, as someone who does not hesitate. Thane speaks in a polite formal matter, but on the job he is brutal, cunning, and quick. He understand that his body may be asked to do things that his mind does not agree with, and accepts that fact.

Thane very much considers himself A Weapon. In that way, he understand that he takes no responsibility for the people he has been hired to kill; he once asks if it would be proper to blame a gun for killing, rather than the person pulling the trigger.

Personality

Polite: One of the easiest things one can pick up on in an interaction with Thane is his good manners. Despite his violent trade (assassin) he is always pleasant and well mannered with whomever he interacts with. Thane is also difficult to offend; comments with snark and rudeness are usually met with simple honesty. Though Thane feels his emotions very deeply, you'd be hard pressed to identify when he was feeling angry.

Honorable: Thane is very honorable, despite being an assassin. He feels the need to repay any debt that he may have with others, and he will do so quite gladly. Though he kills quite often it is never for pleasure; he sees it as his duty, because he was employed by the beings that saved his race from extinction. He is never rude or unpleasant with others.

Articulate: Thane has a very particular way of speaking; his vocabulary is formal, and he tends to communicate is thoughts in few well chosen words.

Poetic: When Thane slips into a memory and verbally describes it, he's actually very poetic. He'll speak of beautiful oceans and the creatures who saved his race, and really artistically communicate the beauty of those memories.

Passionate (Unconventional): Thane is an unconventional kind of passionate. He feels his own emotions very deeply, probably thanks to the drell's perfect memory. Most acutely, Thane feels despair and regret. He's indifferent about memories/feelings of physical pain, and speaks fondly of memories of love and affection. Thane handles his emotions like they are his alone to bare; you'd never catch him having a casual chat about his own feelings unless he was very distraught.

intelligent: Thane is very knowledgeable; he knows and follows the old religion of his people, and his is familiar with their history. He's also familiar with other species religion, cultures, and so on. He's knowledgeable of the art of assassination, as well. Thane is very intuitive, observant, and a quick learner. Thane is also very good and finding connections and nonlinear reasoning.

subtle: Everything about Thane is subtle; the way he shows emotion, the way he fights, the way he shows affection. His facial expressions and tone change very slightly to convey emotion. He prefers to be quiet and precise in a fight. He'd more likely initiate a holding of the hands then a passionate make-out session.

calm: Thane is always very calm, even in the face of situations that would have most people upset. He faces his own impending death with serene dignity, and only once admits to being afraid. In combat, Thane is cool and collected, accurate and deadly. It would be near impossible to get an explosive show of emotion from him.

patient: Thane is a very patient person, both in combat and conversation. In terms of combat, Thane would rather watch and wait, and attack at a crucial moment. In conversation Thane is the same; he is very willing to explain his species and religion to those who are unaware, as well as his own reasoning behind things.

Hard on himself: Thane believes himself to be "wicked", though not for his performance at his work. He scrutinizes all the mistakes he's ever made, both in his job and with his family. He believed himself an unfit father, and he regrets so much of what happened with his son and wife. Thane does not believe that he has led a good life, although he really tries too.

Repentant: Because Thane believes himself to be so "wicked" be believes that he has a lot to atone for. With his death approaching, Thane wanted to put things right with his son. He also tries to atone in more non-specific ways, like doing good whenever given the opportunity (helping people in need, joining Shepard's squad, and so on).

Religious: Though Thane is not very forward about it, he is religious. He follows the old ways of his people, and believes in multiple gods/goddesses. He prays quite frequently; before he enters combat/undertakes a difficult tasks, when he kills, when he aids others.

pensive: Thane is a very thoughtful individual. He values time he can spend reflecting on his own thoughts, and he spends his free time meditating on things. This can probably be blamed on the fact that drell have perfect memory; they can relive any moment in their lives with perfect clarity, as if it is happening all over again. Thane calls this solipsism. He's also one to make plans and strategies rather than rush in and attack.

Open: Thane is very open about most things; he'll openly discuss his species and his culture, his history, his disease, his life's story. Because he is lonely, Thane is comfortable in having almost any conversation. He'll even speak of painful things if asked, like his wife's death. If Thane feels attraction to someone, he's more likely to just tell them outright.

Good: Even though Thane believes himself to be wicked, he's actually a very good person. He goes out of his way to help those in danger, and he dedicated himself to a noble task (helping Shepard with defeating the collectors) without a thought for his own safety. Thane wants to right the wrongs he's made in his life, and reports that he would like to leave the universe a little brighter than he found it.

Background

When Thane was a child, he was given to the hanar (the race who rescued his people from extinction) to be trained as an assassin. This was considered an honor, unlike being sold into slavery. The training started when he was six years old, and he has been killing since he was twelve.

The drell have a very strong belief that the mind/soul is separate from the body, and they accept that the body is not always under the mind's control. For example, if someone attacks you and you kill them by accident, it was not your fault, it's reflex. Thane also draws the parallel that when someone is shot (intentionally), you blame the one who pulled the trigger, not the gun. By this logic, Thane was considered a weapon, as well as a person.

The hanar valued his skills, but also appreciated that he was a living being. Thane was highly valued by the hanar, and grew very close to his usual employers. .

During one hit, Thane met another drell. She spotted his spotting laser on one of his targets, and threw herself in front. She could not see him because he was so far away with his sniper rifle, but Thane could see her through the scope.

She starred him down, and from there he felt she was significant. The thought of her possessed him, and he had to find her. He threw himself onto his knees before her and begged her for forgiveness; be believed she was the goddess Arashu (one of his gods). She showed him the world outside of his work, and eventually they fell in love.

The hanar allowed Thane to leave his job in order to raise a family. Thane had a son, but he had no skills save for the ones he was trained with to support his family. He freelanced, and was very often away from his family. "Away on business" was always his wife's explanation. Thane believes that he abandoned them.

Because of his job, Thane made enemies. In order to get to him, they killed his wife. Thane left his son with aunts and uncles, and hunted down the people who killed Irika. He killed them slowly; made them suffer. Once he returned for his son, he noticed that he had gotten older. He felt like he didn't know how to raise a child, and left him in the care of his aunts and uncles. Thane also didn't want his son to have the same kind of life he did.

With nothing else to drive him, Thane took on a dangerous assassination job. He intended to die during the mission, because he would die eventually anyway due to his sickness (Kepral's Syndrome).

However, during the mission someone else came into play. Commander Shepard found him moments after he took out his hit, and recruited him for his/her own cause. Thane was drawn to the impossible odds and noble ideals of the mission; that being, take out The Collectors, a mutant race that were destroying human colonies. Thane also looked at the mission as a way to atone for the things he has done wrong over the coarse of his life.

During the mission, Thane becomes closer to Shepard. His mortality drives him to think of the things he's done, and he begins to look into his son.

He finds out that Kolyat intends to preform a hit, and he doesn't want the life he has for his son. He enlists Shepard's help, and together they track Kolyat's hit until they find him. Together, they talk him out of taking the hit. Kolyat is angry, but Thane and him begin to talk.

For the rest of the game, Thane and his son communicate through letters/e-mail.
Thane then participates in what's known as the suicide mission; Shepard's crew attack the home base of the collectors (the creatures abducting human colonies) but he actually makes it out alive (assuming you play the game right :P)
